Dagmara

Year of arrival to the UK: 2008

Motivation: to acquire new experiences

Education: higher

Employment history upon arrival: office worker (couple of years in the same company)

Current occupation: own training company, also active in Poland; runs a charity foundation Hurricane of Hearts

Close friends: both Polish and English

Family status: mother and sister in Poland

Housing situation: renting an apartment with a  boyfriend (Polish)

Advantages from living in the UK:
”When I arrived, English people turned out to be wonderful guardians, being with them made me more of an open and outgoing person.”
”London is an amazing place, if you want to do something it is much easier, because there are people from different sectors over here.”
”When running a business in Poland we need to work for the first ten points for someone to trust us and in order to give us more chances. In England trust is a given, we get those ten points at the start. And it is up to us how we use it.”

Disadvantages:

”There are moments, when you are homesick.”
”Despite the fact that there are so many people here, often enough there is a lack of emotional contact with another human being.”
”I miss those times when my neighbour would knock on the door to ask for sugar.”

Future plans:
to evolve a training company in Poland, to set up a school for event’s planning, to continue with charity work (also in Poland) – but not intending to move back to Poland on a permanent basis
