Elżbieta

Year of arrival to the UK: 2005

Motivation: personal –  to join (along with her daughter) her husband (in London from 2004); professional-financial – to find a well paid job, to grow professionally

Education: higher, studied Psychology

History of employment upon arrival: worked in a centre for social work, district office (PA to a social worker)

Current occupation: social worker, psychotherapist

Close friends: multicultural group

Family status: teenage daughter

Housing situation: renting an apartment, saving for a mortgage installment

Advantages from living in the UK:
”When you work in a diverse team, there is cooperation and closeness, everyone brings something to the table, while we also develop a mutual ground of understanding. And that works out well.”
”At the moment I can basically afford everything, apart from an apartment – there are problems with getting a loan.”
”I am able to pay for my studies, and I can travel where I want to.”

Disadvantages:

”If I lived in Poland I would be at a different stage in my life. More stable. Here I had to start from the beginning.”
”I think that Poland is a far more interesting country to live in and to spend free time in than Great Britain.”
”If I had had a different profession, then I would have never come here.”

Future plans:
stay in Great Britain for her daughter’s sake
