Year of arrival to the UK: 2011

Motivation: mortgage pay off

Education: secondary

History of employment upon arrival: recruited to work through an intermediary, fired after a month; completed a course to be a security guard and received a pilot licence (in Poland flown military aircrafts)

Current occupation: unemployed, trying to get a job at Heathrow airport

Close friends: Poles

Family status: divorced, two adult sons living in Poland

Housing situation: communal flat

Advantages from living in the UK:
“This country helped me, by giving me an apartment and soon I will obtain a larger, 2-room flat.”
“I receive housing and unemployment benefits.”
“Here a person is not walking around hungry, there are many organisations which help out, whether English or Polish.”


“If I were to speak English fluently, I would do much more here. The language barrier has blocked out a lot.”
“They accuse white people of being racist here, but that is not true.”
“There are moments of psychological breakdowns, missing my home country. Missing those family gatherings.”

Future plans: return to Poland upon receiving a British pension
